Blackberry Vodka

Blackberry Vodka

You may think it is too early to be thinking about Christmas now (end of September) but if you make this delicious winter warmer now it will just about be ready by then.

Get hold of a 1062 ml Kilner jar and 1 quarter fill it with blackberries and then pour over a 75cl bottle of inexpensive vodka (supermarket everyday own brand works perfectly). The vodka and blackberries should fill the jar to the rim).

Add sugar. Just how much depends on whether you like your tipple spirity or a sticky liqueur. I prefer a spirit and add just 3 desert spoons of caster sugar. But add as much (or as little) as suits your palette.

Shake on a daily basis for a week or so or until the sugar has dissolved, then store in a cool dark place for at least 3 months. The longer you leave it the better it will be. But it never seems to last that long.

Love this idea. I am going to make lots for Christmas. A friend of mine from a farming family said it tastes like sloe gin but sweeter. Yummy!;
